Looking for a sanity check converting gas to heat pump
Hi -- I'm looking at having my Carrier 58STX090 gas furnace replaced by a heat pump. The existing furnace is 88000 Btuh at 80% efficiency
My condo is 1700 sq ft in San Francisco CA which is relatively mild. For reference, I calculated the past three years of Heat Therms (subtracting a baseline for the summer months) which shows about 110 / year on average winters and 180 on a particularly cold one.
The space where the heat pump would go is slightly cramped so the installer is proposing a Mitsubishi SVZ-KP24NA (24000 Btu) air handler (2 Ton, but I guess they were originally thinking 2.5 Ton). They think it will be fine given the climate and condo size but I wanted a sanity check.
A couple of other installers were thinking of a pair of air handlers in the attic as opposed to a single one.
As for cooling, again our summers aren't super warm, there are just a few days were it will go into the 80s
Thanks and I am happy to provide any other info I can find :)
