Please STOP with The NS Gov/HRM Not having Money. Look at this
With all the talk about who's going to pay for the bridges that connect two major downtown cores where so many projects have been completed as per central plan. There's no reason they can't fund two bridges out of the budget.
Take a look at these assessments for properties in the past 10 years. Those empty parking lots from early 2010s are bringing in a lot $$$. Now think about all the properties I haven't included but we know have been sold, new builds, etc.
In addtion the number of people who have moved here has brought in more money through HST, Income taxes, Fuel/Road taxes, increased rent revenue being taxed etc.
Now just looking at property values nearly doubling in recent years and numerous high-rises being built, property tax revenue has increased significantly. I would think there’s enough funding not just for the bridge but for other infrastructure projects as well.
Yet many services like education, public transit, fire departments, healthcare keep getting cut.
The major issue I see is corruption as a small group of people and businesses securing contracts while many projects are grossly overpaid. For example, remember the million-dollar app that only helped three people find apartments, or contracts being awarded to family and friends who then overcharge the public purse. There are many instances of this across the province. Don't believe me talk to people who work in the industry and see what they have to say.
This isn’t about PCs vs. Liberals vs. NDP it’s about the few ultra wealthy and their businesses bribing our leaders vs. everyone else. There needs to be greater public oversight in auditing government spending and ensuring quality control.
Instead of paying companies to create jobs or giving them tax breaks, a better approach might be offering loans or acquiring stock to generate a return on investment thereby helping to fund the budget sustainably.
In my opinion, politics should have no place in funding healthcare, education, public safety, emergency services, science and research, social services, housing, and staple food. These are fundamental needs that should be prioritized for the well being of all!
Edit: Seems like most people here don't even know how corruption works. I'll add more about it soon
