H1b taxes

I switched from an F-1 to an H-1B visa last year. Previously, I only paid Federal Income Tax, California State Income Tax, and California State Disability Insurance. Now, I also pay Social Security and Medicare. Can anyone confirm if this is correct? Thanks!
