Got traumatized on the first day of my Meghalaya trip

So we group of 9 people were visiting Meghalaya and landed on the Guwahati airport so we decided to visit places in guwahati and then head to shillong. So we visited Kamakhya devi temple and goats were being sacrificed openly in the slaughter house and I saw it live. I mean is this normal there ? And why are people ok with it ? Coming from Maharashtra it was really traumatizing for us.
