Shade + Heat and giving up

This is my third year gardening. It’s been very rewarding and exciting. So I’m not ready to give up on it yet.

I live in a desert climate. Summer temps can range from 40C (100F) to 50C (122F)

Winter temps range from 1C (33F) to 20C (68F)

It is extremely dry. My garden does not receive much sun, great in the summer, horrible for growing anything. I am renting and don’t foresee myself living here past 5 more years.

As you can probably imagine, summer i shut the garden down, mulch the soil, add my worm castings and compost, cover it and wait for fall to start growing.

My issue is, everything I’ve tried growing doesn’t thrive. It will grow in one small corner, but not thrive. The rest of my garden beds I plant flowers from the nursery, but once they’ve bloomed they don’t rebloom because of how little sun they are receiving.

I’ve giving up on vegetables, I don’t get enough sun for anything to really give me a decent output. I’m coming to the conclusion that I should just plant hardy plants around the garden perimeter and save my two sunny garden beds for greens during winter and then plant some flowers in the summer.

I will take any suggestions / advice / help
