No Man's Sky vs Starfield

Hi guys I'm considering playing both these games (i believe their on PC gamepass so both will be free) but not sure which one to pick.

My main worry is that I'm not used to playing these type of games and I what I'm worried about is if either game feels empty or a bit too linear.

I enjoy souls like games and recently 3rd person shooters but the exploration and open world worldness attracts me to these two.
