Just finished Game of Thrones. I say Daenerys did what she thought she needed to do.

Apparently most of the beef with season 8 comes from the last two episodes.

Right before the battle, her life was being turned upside down. She felt like everything was closing in on her.

Her dragon died, Varys betrayed her, Tyrion betrayed her, and she felt like Jon had betrayed her. Jon also refused to show her affection when she was trying to keep love in her heart instead of fear. When he refused, that was the last straw and she told him “So then it will be fear.”

The only people truly loyal to her cause were the Dothraki and Unsullied. Everyone else was only repaying a debt (Jon Snow) or wanted to gain something in the end (Cersei’s death). She was very visibly crashing out the night before the siege, she looked unhinged.

She knew that even if she had sat on the throne right after the surrender, she was no longer surrounded by people that loved her. So she picked the fear route as promised and torched the city.

When Tyrion quit as Hand, it didn’t seem like he really cared that the city was torched. He cared that his family was dead. If Jaime hadn’t died, he likely would not have been on such a moral high ground. He was being a great hypocrite. Jon was also being a hypocrite by trying to get her to pardon him.

That’s why I feel like she did what she thought she had to do. In the final moments, too many people were betraying her, too much was going wrong.

Daenerys was a much better fit for the iron throne than everyone else shown on screen, even after she nuked kings Landing. Jon was extremely stupid for listening to Tyrion who was only mad at his family dying.

In the end everyone just seemed jealous and/or afraid of her. So they all turned. Only the Unsullied/Dothraki mourned her.

I didn’t hate the ending though. The things that happened still all made sense on screen. Of course I wanted to see Daenerys’ world, but there are no happy endings in this show. It wouldn’t have made any sense for her to live in the end.

Straight up my only gripe with the end is that Tyrion survived. I liked him in the first half, but he pretty much did nothing but sabotage Daenerys. He wasn’t likable in the final seasons.
