'Stat Survival' Style Games?
I've been mulling over a survival game concept for a while now, and while I'm certain it's not a unique idea I don't know what games have tried a similar concept before. Right now I'm not sure the core concept has enough elements to be engaging, so I'd really like to see if other games have tried a similar mechanic (and whether they're any good).
The concept is a player being stuck in an isolated location (e.g. the moon, or Antarctica) and having a finite number of days until help arrives. Each day the player has an amount of 'time' to use on different tasks: repairing equipment, eating, etc. Over time equipment breaks down, or freak events can damage parts of the building and require repair.
Different priorities have to be balanced e.g. the player can survive without heating for a short time, but can't survive without oxygen. Not eating will reduce the amount of time available per day.
The closest game analogues I can think of are daily survival games like 60 Seconds! or, to an extent, games like Stardew Valley or My Time at Portia which budget the player's time with energy. But are there any that have tried this mechanic, on it's own, as a survival mechanism? Could it work?
