Diptyque's Lilyphea - Green Guava Skin

Truly an unusual vanilla! Out of the five Essences, this was immediately the most memorable to me because it wasn't what I expected at all. It's first and foremost, a fresh green scent. Not an ounce of gourmand vanilla at all. I expected something almost tea-like with the addition of ginger and cardamom.

The second I sprayed it on my skin, it instantly reminded me of biting into a green guava. The kind with the white flesh, not the pink kind that's more nectary and tropical. It's fresh, leafy, wet, and such an optimistic scent. I had a guava tree in the backyard of my mom's house, and I remember my grandma slicing them up for me as a kid, reminding me to not eat too many of the seeds (they supposedly cause indigestion). It's such a specific scent that I was surprised to see it replicated so realistically here.

Looking back at these adjectives (fresh, leafy, wet) they make perfect sense for a fragrance inspired by water lilies. The staying power isn't great, but gosh, maybe it's worth it for something so unique and evocative.

Between this and Diptyque's other green vanilla, Eau Duelle, I find Lilyphea more beautiful and interesting.
