Advice and kindness needed

I remember Taz being placed in my hands as a wee puppy by my animal control officer. She was born handicapped (2 back legs and a front club foot) and was going to be put down. That was over 15 years ago. She has brought so much joy to everyone she meets. She's still happy go lucky and will sing/coo and has never met a stranger.

I carry her in and out now, as her club foot hurts (the foot has collapsed and she's walking on bone. She has maxed out on pain meds. The vet can't do anymore.

On New Years day, I (57f) broke a rib. I'm under strict orders of no lifting for at least 6 weeks. My husband (66m) is now doing the lifting and he has mobility issues. I am so scared he's going to hurt himself by falling. Taz is 45 lbs.

My heart is breaking as I know what needs to be done, but I can't make the call.can someone please give me words of encouragement. I'm downing.
