Serious Earthquake/Tsunami Bug-out bag flashlight.
Me and my wife are moving to Japan this year.
Given Japan's penchant for earthquakes and subsequent tsunami's, one of the things that has become a serious topic between us is our bug out bag.
While I intend to get (1) US 72 hr survival bag (has more food items and less toiletries) and (1) Japanese survival bag (has more toiletries than food and water), I now come to the part about lights.
What is the general discussion about survival lights, or lights you'd carry to help with survival?
I'd think a flashlight that has the following would make it higher on the list, but discussion and opinions with reason(s) are greatly appreciated:
1) lantern mode of some sort 2) can serve as a power bank 3) can be unused for a year, but still retain nearly 100 battery capacity 4) has none or barely any battery drain when not in use 5) efficient in power use 6) waterproof / IP67 or higher 7) can be used while charging?
I've survived through multiple super typhoons (category 4 and higher), (2) separate magnitude 8.5 earthquakes (last one being the 2011 Tohoku earthquake), a volcanic eruption (Taal), and lived without power for up to 3 months due to natural disasters. Every time, we were lucky enough/smart enough to stock up on water; filling up bathtubs and collecting rainwater into clean giant plastic trash bins.
Lights have changed so much since then, and Japan does/did not have the best light options (since I last worked there). And this time, I have a wife to consider.
My current flashlight stock/collection are as follows: 1) Terminator M1 2) Mateminco SL01 3) Loop Gear Sk03 4) Kogalla Ra 5) Wuben L1 6) FFL NOV MU V2S 7) Wuben X2 Pro 8) Nitecore SCL10 9) Fenix HM71R 10) Nitecore UT05 11) Rovyvon SL41 12) Boruit V20 13) Wuben E1 14) Nightwatch Incredible V2
These were bought because they filled a role for my (3) EDC bags and my work. However, I now need to consider one for survival.
So, once again I ask in earnest and with the seriousness of having another persons life in my care, what do my fellow light-ers consider as a great choice for a survival flashlight? Cuz this may save me and my wife, and others whom I'll also get caught up with in another disaster.
Also, if anyone has suggestions for a portable solar panel generator that can be survival-carried, I'm all ears about that too. Though I think I should wait for more options of Solid State Battery versions to come out.
