Advice needed for Debt recycling
Hi everyone,
Our finance situation:
- Owner-occupied home loan in joint names: $750k ($250k variable, $500k fixed until August 2025). Property value: $1.2M
- Offset account in joint names: $150k
- ETFs portfolio in joint names: $400k
Questions: 1. How should we structure our loans for regular investments? Should we split the loan each time we save a lump sum, or can we top up the "good debt" loan?
We want to sell our current joint ETFs portfolio and utilise debt recycling to repurchase $400k in ETFs when our fixed-rate loan ends. Should we sell the entire portfolio at once or in smaller chunks? The capital gains will likely be significant, as we’ve held this portfolio for 7 years.
For tax purposes, would it be better to hold the new ETF portfolio under the lower-income earner’s name (30%) or the higher-income earner’s name (37%)?
Thanks so much!
