Ending Remote worker (duty station home) status - Reassignmnent?
This relates to the ongoing discussions continue about ending telework, which presumably can be done by Executive Order barring collective bargaining agreements that might delay the process vs. those of us who are fully remote (i.e. your SF-50 says your duty station is your home).
I believe the latter is a reassignment and I specifically note Separation after Reassignment https://www.opm.gov/policy-data-oversight/workforce-restructuring/summary-of-reassignment/#5 since it is likely that many individuals, myself included, would refuse to move 1000+ miles to DC, especially those of us who specifically left DC seven years ago, have a spouse working in our new city, family in our location, a house with a low interest rate, two kids in the schools, etc.
My exhaustive read of all this leads me to believe that I would ultimately be fired, but that I would likely be entitled to severance pay due to the Agency bringing forth an adverse action. I also believe that a new Administration could probably do this through an EO. To be clear, I will happily (OK, maybe not happily, but willingly) return to a local office (there just isn't one for my unit). I just won't move to DC. I am shopping the possibility of moving into the physical office space of other parts of my agency that do have offices here. I would do that now and preemptively as a requested duty station change. It's a long shot though.
I am usually not someone who jumps into alarmist mode, but I actually do think this is at least 50% likely to happen and I am trying to be prepared.
