Unpopular Opinion: I Think Travis Etienne is an MUST buy low. Explanation below.
People are, understandably, very low on Etienne. He hasn't looked all that explosive this year, is coming off a hamstring injury, and has a backup who has looked extremely capable in his absence. Additionally, the Jax offense has looked worse than we expected coming into the year. With all this being said, Pederson has continued to state that Etienne is his starter moving forward when healthy, and it makes sense given the financial commitment they've made to him and how close he is with Lawrence. Additionally, he has the most valuable touches in the offense, getting nearly all the receiving work and most red zone opportunities. Since the Jaguars defense has been so pitiful, this will create many favorable game scripts for a player of this mold with the expectation that they will be forced to throw the ball in the second half quite a bit. There's the additional chance that he gets traded to a team like the Cowboys where he would have top 12 upside ROS. With all this being said, what matters most is his price tag at the moment, especially if he misses this week. The Etienne owner has to be absolutely sick that they drafted him in the 2nd round and he's been between mediocre or useless to this point. I've seen Etienne get traded for guys like Ekeler, Jordan Brooks, Javonte Williams, and other guys who are typically thought of as throw-ins. I would get as much of Etienne as I can at this absurdly low price tag due to his relatively high floor and history of being a productive player who we can expect will ramp up in time for the fantasy playoffs where he could be a very good flex option against a solid RB schedule to finish the year.
