Bosch battery died; was told it will cost $800 every 4 years to get a new one?!?

My $4k Gaselle ebike has a Bosch battery. It died after 3 1/2 years of light use. The bike shop where I purchased the bike told me I'll have to get a new battery ($800) about every 4 years. WTH?
