[AZ] Smart start IID - is 2 initial BAC fails an automatic 6 month extension?

I’ve had it for 2 months. The first time I drank at night and didn’t even think twice about my BAC in the morning, I assumed I’d be fine. 6 beers and I blew 10 hours later when I woke up and it was a fail. I turned it off, took and Uber to work, and started it with no issue 8 hours later. Stupid mistake.

2nd time was a month later, I drank with some friends at home in the evening and used a BAC calculator this time thinking I was slick and nope, still failed 10 hours later in the morning. I should have known from the first time. The fail must have been barely above 0.02 both times based on the time and what I drank. No lockouts and was able to start my car an hour later.

I obviously have a problem with alcohol so I’m not really here for judgement and I’m committing to not drinking in the evening at all during the rest of this IID and going to try to get some more help and stop permanently.

My paperwork and the internet says blowing 2 fails at any time during the length of the IID may extend your time for another 6 months. Should I expect a letter from the MVD? My next calibration isn’t for a month. Is that when it will be reported to them?

Anyone in AZ get two fails? What was your experience?
