The power of consistency
Viene y va is a semi-mentioned podcast around here. The new episode that dropped today really hit home and pays homage to all of us grinding out the language learning process and the power of consistency. A part summarized that she said in the episode was to actually achieve consistent behavior, you need something powerful and personalized, as motivation comes and goes. Consistency is something that you feel you absolutely need to do. Something you deeply desire to change about yourself.
I found Dreaming Spanish almost exactly 1 year ago (1/1/24). As I approach not only on the 1 year anniversary, but also the New Year where it’s so often a time to reflect, I can’t help but think about some of the goals I made for language learning year after year. It always was along the lines of get to a level where I can be conversational in Spanish (vague and boring, I know). I made a similar goal on 12/31/23, not realizing what I’d find the next day. After years of making this my goal, I have without a doubt achieved it this year. The biggest change was finding something that made me want to be consistent. I’ll be at close to 1200/1250 hours after this year wraps up and I couldn’t be happier with my Spanish. I know I’ve got a ways to go still, but the consistency that I’ve built lets me know I will without a doubt get to the fluency level I desire. Keep on chugging along. Motivation will come and go, but the consistent behavior we’ve built will keep us climbing and climbing.
