Fuzz Face transistor swap as a complete beginner
I was watching JHS Livestream a while ago where Josh was creating the JHS Smiley and it inspired me to mod my fuzz face, Its still being shipped to me but Ive listened to some demos of it on yt. Its the MXR Hendrix Fuzz Unit (JH-2S), it uses MPSA18 transistors which from what I could find are usually high gain and apparently dunlop didnt really try matching the transistors during the era these were made so I think a transistor swap would be a nice mod/upgrade.
Since im a complete beginner in this, what kind of tools would I need aside from a soldering kit and a multimeter? and what should I keep in mind when swapping transistors?
The transistors ill be getting for this are matched low gain BC108B from Ebay, see 4th pic below
This is the closest schematic I can find online, its for the JH-2 but looking up images in google, they share the same "FUZZ 1030" PCB, the JH-2S pic is taken from the mercari listing where I bought it from so its the same as mine
