Just look at the state of Delta first class
To be clear, I know this sounds like privilege gone too far, but I've never been able to afford first class in my entire life until this year. I am judging this product against a competitor, YouTube reviews, and my experiences/ expectations having seen, but not yet experienced first class previously, and now having just tried it for the first time this year. I think that an expensive product should live up to its billing, and the cost of an upgrade should mean something, as it is substantial.
On a 737-800, I was severely disappointed by the first class offering from (a New England city) to ATL. I took a similar flight this summer on United and was much more impressed with Polaris first class. Here are my chief complaints:
The seat and screen - out of date, no extra pockets or anything, and a pathetic tiny screen that looked 20 years out of date.
The service - FA practically threw my snack box at me. She barely checked in on us, technically offering a pre flight drink, but in a way that made it clear she didn't want to be bothered.
The snack box - Special K, milk that had gotten lukewarm, a disgusting oat cookie bar thing, and dried apple chips. Pathetic, inedible processed stodge. Really Delta? Cereal?
Boarding - "Now boarding zones 1 and 2." We really hoped to not have to fight for overhead space because we were in the front row with no under seat storage. But they boarded both zones at once and sure enough the overhead space had already been taken. Nothing like having to fight two rows back only to get on and off the plane.
Overall I'm hoping for a redeeming flight home tomorrow, but I'm not optimistic. There is no lounge in our small departure airport, so we'll get to see how or if the Delta lounge experience in ATL will enhance our travel day. So far, I would never pay for Delta first class again.
