Was fashion simpler a long time ago?

I've been watching things from the late 90s early 2000s (when I was born) and I noticed that everything seemed a lot simpler. Makeup, clothes, technology, etc. I notice nowadays everything just feels so saturated and bright and overwhelming. Such as all of the brightly patterned clothes at Target or the tiktok trends.

What do you guys think?
