I always thought Magistrate Clagget lived in Deadwood, until I started episode 9
The episode makes a reference of him being of Yankton.
In the episode of McCall’s trial, I assumed he helped Al to obtain the innocent veredict because I believed when I watched the episode the first time that Clagget lived in Deadwood (so, it would have had sense for him to generate an innocent veredict in order to facilitate the annexation of his town)
But in episode 9 it is made clear that he is a Yankton resident. So...what did he gain with McCall’s innocent veredict? Why did he agree to collaborate with Al without obtaining a personal benefit? Al didn’t even give a bribe to Clagget during their conversation in McCall’s trial. I feel that the only person who obtained a benefit with the result of the trial was Al (being him a Deadwood resident), not Clagget.
