How do you know that your giving/receiving the bare minimum?

Hi Everyone,
I'm bad at social cues and making topics to tell about. I try, don't get me wrong. I think of questions and ideas to share but sometimes I think it is not enough.
Dating is hard. HAHAHAHA. Ofcourse, if you like someone you would do almost everything to make them happy. But, how do I know if that really makes them happy? Should I ask but isn't that stating the obvious? It does trouble me sometimes that, what if I am not giving him even the bare minimum? welp.
