Feet are killing me
Dads, I need some help. Ever since I’ve had my little girl (she turns 3 yo this week) my feet have ached progressively to the point that it hurts to stand or walk even for a short period. I think it comes from carrying her everywhere and picking her up throughout the day. Add to that two dog walks a day and my attempt to stay fit with a short (30 minute) weight training routine most mornings and it’s a recipe for disaster. I’ve tried a range of shoes and insoles but nothing works for long. Here’s the thing: we are going to Disneyland for her birthday this week for three days, which means lots of walking. I’m not sure how I’m going to do it. My feet are in excruciating pain now from a 2 hour outing today. I bought a new pair of shoes for the trip and they feel good for about 2 minutes when I put them on, then back to the pain.
Any advice from others who have dealt with this issue? Massages, foot baths, insoles, strategies? I am fit, not overweight but in my 40s without much fat on my feet. The pain starts in the heel and progresses forward. My kid is getting a little too big for my wife to carry so it’s mostly on me. It’s not a shoe size issue. I have plenty of room.
TIA!
UPDATE: To give you an update, I took to heart all of your comments. Thank you. The 3 days at Disneyland were a lot of fun. My toddler said she wanted to go home within hours of our arrival despite staying in a really fun Disney resort, but the photographic evidence of the next three days prove she had a blast. My feet? Well, they did hurt a bit, but perhaps not as much this year given the interventions mentioned by you, gracious commenters. The main problem, as several pointed out, I think was tightness throughout the rest of my lower body and core from exercise and general "dadding." I stretched more in the days leading up to the trip, got a new pair of shoes with a large heel drop (On Cloud Form), and a new pair of memory foam insoles. I also took Aleve prophylactically each day. I rolled out my feel with a golf ball and trigger point ball each morning before the events of the day. I sat whenever I got the chance. I still exercised in the mornings during the trip but made sure to add in a few streches, which I normally don't do. Altogether 7/10. Thanks again! Now I'm back to my normal ratrace routine and the foot pain -- it's back! Oh well, I guess I now know what to do.
