My fine curls are continuously dry, and I don’t know how to fix it
Hi all, so I've been slowly learning to take care of my hair in the past year and a half. Before that period, I did pretty much nothing for it - used 50 cent shampoo from the supermarket, didn't brush it, would leave it long periods of time without washing or conditioning, etc.
Over time I've realised my hair is chronically undermoistured and I've been trying to figure out a hair routine and hair products that work for it. As you can see in the photos, it has been getting better over time. But still, every morning when I wake up, it's pretty dry, and if I leave it even a few days without adhering to my routine, it turns into a tangled, dry mess that has the texture of straw.
My routine:
1) Roughly once a week, shampoo with Shea Moisture Manuka Honey & Yoghurt. Condition with Cantu Sulfate-Free Hydrating Cream Conditioner. Leave for 5 minutes, brush through with tangle teezer, rinse out, airdry.
2) Every day, wet hair, squeeze out water until damp, and then apply Aunt Jackie's Quench. Brush with wide-toothed comb, airdry.
And that's it. I am planning to add silk bonnet/protective hairstyles. I have not really tried oils - I bought a basic hair oil blend from L'Oreal that doesn't really seem to do anything for my hair except leave it greasy. The Cantu conditioner is okay for detangling purposes, but in general seems to leave my hair dry, and I would prefer not using it again. But there's a bunch of different Shea Moisture conditioners and I have no idea which one would be be best for me?
Something I am coming to understand is that my hair is pretty fine (I think? Tips on hair type are also very appreciated) so a lot of the more moisturising products weigh it down and leave it greasy.... but the more lightweight products don't seem to moisturise it for long enough. I'm completely stuck about what to do next and any help would be appreciated!
First three pictures are from 2023, the beginning of taking care of my hair; the remainder are from mid-to-late 2024, in roughly chronological order, and show how even when sometimes my hair looks lovely, at other times it can still be a tangled, dry mess.
