A timeless classic with a fitting title
Charlie Chaplin's Little Tramp character is the focus of a comedy with a very necessary critique of modernity within society. Coming in at just 87 minutes long, we see a sequence of memorable gags combined with an overarching story of one's individuality being forced into suppression by the work force and overbearing forces. Chaplin and Paulette Goddard as two lovebirds trying to make the most of their lives while dealing with the constant financial and class struggles of society makes it easy to root for them, and the musical along with some stellar cinematography from Rollie Totheroh makes for a fantastic watch. Truly one of the filmmaker's best efforts.
