Can people with aphantasia (inability to form mental images) play chess at a high level?

Been reading about aphantasia lately, and it seems common that many people can't or can only poorly form mental images.

Visualising a chess board to calculate is meant to be an important skill for playing chess at a high level, so I'm curious as to how having that condition would affect chess ability. Im a patzer, so I only ever calculate one or two moves ahead which doesn't require any visualisation, but wondering how much visualisation other chess players use, and if there is anyone here with aphantasia that can provide some insight on how they calculate without a mental chess board.
