CMV: The US will not have another free election

The Republican party has been gaining power by turning casual voters away from the polls and building institutional power by taking over courts and transferring power to private and unaccountable groups. No matter how the public votes in future elections, control of things like election boards, law enforcement, oversight groups, state supreme courts etc are fully Republican controlled. They will not permit control to go to democrats regardless of whether they win a popular vote.

Trump has already announced a "surprise" for the mid-terms. Mid term elections usually serve as a counter balance, with the opposition party taking back one branch. Based on the very low favorability rating, this "should" be a big swing. However, based on past refusals of Trump to abide by the vote, and his pledge that people will not have to vote again, this time it will happen. In his first term, Trump was strung by career administrators who blocked as much as they could. Today, the top military leaders have been replaced, all intelligence leadership has been gutted, oversight groups dismantled. Any mechanism that would have been able to stop him has in 2 months been completely destroyed. It is impossible to turn back many of these changes.

A democratic process cannot function in this environment. People may be able to fill in a ballot, but there will be no transparency. You will see across the board Republican wins with 99% of the vote- North Korea style.
