Something I’m doing in my spare time to challenge folks.
In today's world, cancel culture is here, and unfortunately it is here to stay. We have seen many people lose contracts, endorsements, and/or sponsorship. Herschel “Guy” Beahm, who is known as Dr. DisRespect to his viewers, has recently experienced this cultural phenomenon that should be a fail safe to purge people from society who have done terrible things. There are a few problematic issues that people need to analyze thoroughly before making assumptions about Beahm’s Twitch ban. Beahm did not make things easy for himself, by confessing in a post to X on June 25, 2024 to messaging a minor in 2017. According to this post Beahm admitted that these messages sometimes “leaned too much in the direction of inappropriate.” As problematic as the tweet is, and the accusations against him that were made known public by a former Twitch employee Cody Conners are, they must be given a thorough investigation. Which ultimately led to journalist Rod “Slasher” Breslau, writing an article that was published in The Rolling Stone magazine. To understand this story fully, a historical timeline of events leading up to Beahm’s current expulsion by society, along with a thorough investigation with the sloppy journalism by Breslau. The intent of this essay is only to show what is fact and not promote the wild assumptions that are running rampant on social media. In no way is this an apologetic essay to defend Beahm, instead it is going to show fact vs fiction using primary and secondary sources to inform the reader of what is known about Beahm’s situation. As the livelihood of an individual is on the line. In 2017 Beahm attended TwitchCon like many Twitch streamers did at the time. This only increased Beahm’s popularity, as he stayed in Character for most of the event. However, there was an incident with another streamer who filmed Beahm out of character.
Once this is done if you like I can publish the Essay. It will solve nothing, but it’s an approach to this in way that brings the bad journalism by slasher using cited sources to light.
