Skateboarder and scooter death-trap
The new bikeway along the river past the casino is amazing—no doubt about it. But those freshly painted lines? Absolute death traps for anyone using a skateboard, scooter, or even for kids.
I found out the hard way. Coming down the hill from William Street, I turned onto the bikeway and hit these lines sideways. Instantly, I was thrown off. These markings are raised at least 6–8mm, and they completely mess with the control of anything with small wheels. Scooters, skateboards—it doesn’t matter.
Are they planning to fill in the gaps? Or is this the final product? Because if this is it, it’s a massive safety hazard.
Has anyone else had issues with this? And does anyone know if Brisbane City Council (or whoever designed this) plans to fix it? Right now, it feels like we’re stuck with death traps on what should’ve been a fantastic bikeway.
