Did your baby ever self wean?

I have an 8mo, and recently he’s been seemingly breastfeeding less and less throughout the day.

In the morning and early afternoon, he’ll breastfeed throughout our time together and I try to make sure he empties the breast, but as the day goes on, he breastfeeds less and less.

Now, I will say, he eats quite a bit of solids throughout the day: breakfast, lunch, snack and then dinner. I’ll try offering the breast throughout the whole day, and many times he’ll suckle but never actually drink, or he’ll flat out refuse the breast.

I know his primary source of nutrients should be from breastfeeding and this new trend has me slightly worried.

Could this be self weaning? Do babies even self wean off the breast? And if so, can it happen this early? Thanks in advance!
