Literature with a lesbian romance similar to Celie and Shug's in 'The Color Purple'

There was something so compelling and heart-warming about their relationship. I had never come across a lesbian relationship in literature with such a perfect blend of romance and motherly love all tied into one. Celie's adoration for Shug was so tender, and was only deepened by Shug's motherly care for Celie. Beyond that, the two developed a sincere friendship that lasted past their romantic fling for one another.

Any book that is even remotely similar to these dynamics would be awesome! (but not looking for YA or plotless poorly written smut.. no offense to those who are into that) Thanks in advance!
