Seniors: how do you motivate juniors to take ownership?
I am struggling with how to motivate juniors (1st and 2nd years) to do anything other than be task robots for specifically and solely exactly what I ask them to do and nothing else. No motivation whatsoever to move the deal along, follow up on emails they’ve sent to opposing counsel that haven’t been responded to for days, etc. A few associates seem to have intuitively grasped this concept, but most seem to not. I am not asking them to be out here doing advanced level stuff here. Just the basics. Any general exhortations and encouragements to do this are ignored, and limited solely to doing each specific task i assign and nothing else. This is making it so I have less time to do higher level stuff that I need to focus on. Any tips?
