Do you think Absolute Batman has the potential to be one of the best alternate versions of the character we've had?
This is a thought that I found interesting and I wondered what other people may think about it. So Absolute Batman's first issue came out recently and it gave us a new take on the Caped Crusader. Rather it be physically, or on his arsenal, his relations, and much more. But I would like to discuss his origin story a bit more in this post.
I think one of the things that made me love this take on Batman the most is how much more he feels connected to the city. Normally we rarely see him as much as Bruce Wayne. We know he uses his money to help the city here and there but apart from a very few times it hardly feels personal nor "important" even though it is. Here it's different, they managed to make his entire training and preparation for his role as Batman inside Gotham without the need for him to leave for it. He studied within Gotham, trained physically within Goham, and not only that, but he works as a construction worker which gives him insight into the entire city's landscape including the sewers which is essential for his crusade which generally feels less natural coming from a Batman who spent years away for his training.
On top of this, his social status gives a new dimension from him being middle/lower middle class in Gotham. There is a lot to be done with this and could give us much different types of stories and may even make him rely much more on infiltration and espionage due to him not having access to his usual high status.
I think this specific version of Batman has the potential to give us one of the best runs we've got in a long while, giving us something more grounded yet extreme than usual. And I am absolutely thrilled to see what's coming up next.
