[Ending Spoilers] Just completed Banner Saga 1

Hello, I'm new and I need to talk to someone about the ending.
I bought the game on the summer sale and, oh boy, did I like it.
I just finished the game and wanted to discuss the ending a bit.
I personally let Alette throw the arrow, I knew that since I had to choose something bad would happen to her, but I did not expect her to die like that.
I really liked the funeral and her going to Vallhalla, however I feel like Rook dying would be the "better" ending.
What I mean by this is that I personally played the game by incouraging Alette in growing up into a full woman, and once she asks for the arrow she shows that she is ready. This completes Rook's objective and his story is complete. He can die peacefully knowing that the caravan is safe with Alette.
On the other hand Alette dying brings some interesting plot points.
For example, now everyone from Skogr lost something: Oddleif her husband, Iver his arm and Rook his daughter. We also have a potential Oddleif and Rook romance and, even though clichè, a potential plotline focused on Rook's revenge.
Since this is my first playthrough I plan to keep playing with Rook alive, however I would like to hear what you did your first time.
