another moving here post (sorry lol)
Hi ya'll. I'm likely moving to Baltimore from NYC in June. I'll be studying education with Johns Hopkins for a year and then teaching full time in a city school. I know this sub tends to be a bit derisive of the school system, but I've worked with students in difficult settings for a number of years and have seen alot. The shittiest experiences I've had as an educator have been with the adults, not kids. I think I'll be prepared for the challenge that BCPS is going to throw at me and I'm looking to hopefully just be a positive force in the lives of youth here.
I'm in my mid 20's and am wondering about any perspectives on navigating the city. What are some great things about Bmore that I must take advantage of? Anything I should know before I arrive here? I enjoy tabletop games, have played a little bit of D&D and am wondering if there are opportunities for that in the city. I also enjoy competitive table tennis and riding fixed gear and am wondering how friendly the city is to that.
Any suggestions for neighborhoods would be be cool. I've heard people mention Hampden, Canton, a bunch of places ending in Hill, so any context for those places would be most appreciated. Hope that's enough. Look forward to any/all replies. Thanks ya'll!!
EDIT: sorry if I wasn’t specific in what I wanted out of this post. I’m wondering:
What are some good neighborhoods for young ppl like myself with good community culture and things to do?
Are there good ways to go about meeting new people? Gaming clubs? Sports leagues?
What are some spots that you love to eat? I love Thai and Korean so I’m wondering if the city does that well.
Are y’all bike friendly?
