I'm new to the game and need some tips

I want to play bg3 since everyone likes it but i wanted to start from the beginning.

I'm new to CRPG and i have 0 knowledge of D&D.
Currntly i'm playing as a sorcerer and i fell like i'm playing the game wrong, as a sorcerer with only 2 spells per day i fell so weak and useless in battle (I also die very fast) and the wooden staff that i started with doesn't do any damage. I currently have a party of 6 and i was heading to Nashkel, I die a lot on the way and also my party members. everytime someone dies i reload the save beause i don't know if they can come back to life and without a party i die really fast.
So can someone give me some direction? i want to enjoy the game but it's frustrating
how do i progress properly? Should i run for hard battles? How can i play the sorcerer when i have no spell uses? and What exactly is a roll?
