How do I win a run?

New to the game. I always die around ante 5/6. My highest hand is like 13k, in any case once I get to like the 20k blinds I lose.

What's the best strategy? Levelling up hands? Focusing on jokers? Changing the cards in my deck? I've probably played around 10ish runs (not a lot I know) but I keep getting stuck at ante 5/6. Should I get more hands/discards?

Any advice? I'm not playing with any seeds, just clicking new run. Any good, strong advice for a beginner would be appreciated.
