Southeast Ohio trails?
I'm planning a trip to southeast Ohio. I'm thinking about the backpacking trails in Zaleski State Forest or Shawnee State Forest. Does anyone have experience there, or nearby recommendations? It sounds like Shawnee is less heavily used, which I would normally prefer. But I'll have an 18 year old with me on this trip, who is adventurous and competent but also easily bored. I wonder if Zaleski would be a better choice, since it is close to spectacular day hikes at Hocking Hills State Park - we might want to "car camp" for a night or two at the beginning and/or end of our backpacking trip. Are there other activities like canoeing or mountain biking near Zaleski and/or Shawnee? I'm also a bit worried about mud this time of year, is it likely to be a problem in either or both places? All advice and suggestions are welcome - thanks in advance!
