Is autism an excuse?

People tell me I need to stop using my autism as an excuse not to have a job, but they really don’t know how disabling autism is for me. While theoretically I can work, the closest thing I’ve ever had to a job was work experience in the library at my uni so I really don’t know what other skills I have.

I tend to use my autism more as an explanation or crutch but I am trying to unlearn it and start acting more like my neurotypical peers. I’m going to try to get a job this year, I even asked my sister if her workplace was hiring but she said they have too many people.
