apprehensive about majoring in philosophy

I'm currently a high school senior applying to colleges as a philosophy major. the way I see it, many humanities degrees have access to essentially the same job opportunities--and i'd rather study philosophy than, say, english. but my peers majoring in english seem to deal with a lot less skepticism when telling people about their chosen major. can anyone with a philosophy degree (who didn't go into law, because i'm not interested in that) reassure me that a philosophy degree will, in fact, be just as useful (if not more!) as another non-STEM degree?

in a perfect world, i'd like to be a journalist. i feel like that's a dying trade, but in any case, a philosophy degree would be helpful in that field, right?
