"Draining the battery"?

Hi, everyone always goes on about if the lights of the car are on it will drain the battery. if the engine is running, like the key is turned the most forward, is the battery draining? like I'm just sitting in park, listening to music, but the engine is on brrrr. is that draining the battery?
