Release to Reserve from Guard

Howdy assorted Reservists,

I’ve spent the last nine years enlisted in the Guard. That was all well and good while I was in school, SAD missions were a chance to get some extra money. Now, however, I’m a big boy with a big boy job and am getting activated for cold weather for the second time in three weeks (Texas isn’t confident in its power grid AT ALL).

I’m a lawyer now and commissioning as a JAG was always part of my plan, but staying in the Guard with this drop everything OPTEMPO is undoable right now. The Reserve has better accommodations and programs for JAGs and no State Active Duty, so I’d like to commission there. I’m trying to find the path of least resistance to do so. DD368, release to the IRR, what have you. Any advice?
