The Field Jacket

I have long appreciated vintage fashions. I received my issued M-65 field jacket (in UCP) a few years prior to their end of issuance. And though it was finally removed in the 2021 version of AR 670-1, the M-65 field jacket held a special place in my heart. After locating this item online I brought the jacket overseas twice. Most recently in a Northern European winter. It is immeasurably more comfortable than the ECWCS gear I’ve received in the past. I recently added the waist belt. I’ll keep it off when in uniform (once I’m told to remove it that is) There is a long history of soldiers altering their uniforms due to personal taste of necessities of the field. I’d suggest “U.S. Army Uniforms of World War 2” by Shelby Stanton as a start. The book series continues for the Cold War, Korea, and Vietnam.
