Upgrade LP question

So I know payed upgrades do not earn lp's, and american said they would eventually later this year. So today I got an email from AA selling me an upgrade for my next trip and they make it seem like you can now earn lp's. I then checked the app and checked the offer and now it does not say that upgrades do not earn lps. I asked customer support and the rep told me that they dont.

Has anyone heard something or this is probably just AA being sneaky and removing the "upgrades don't earn lps" to bait people into buying them?
