Putting sleep mode on XBOX SS

Whenever I turn off my console, I put it in sleep mode, not completely shut it off. I've noticed that it gives off a bit of heat when it's off; is this normal? Should I be worried?

I've read that if I turn it off completely, the console will take longer to start up; does turning it off completely affect the console's quick resume?
