Scratched the side of someone’s rim when I parked
I got into a little accident today (first ever) where I was getting into a tight parking spot and scraped the side of someone’s rims with the front of my car. We assessed the car and it looked like minimal damage, but with how dirty the cars are because of the slush we agreed he would wash it and he would send me pictures after. I gave them my license and phone number and they contacted me 5 hours later. He sent me a video and sure enough there’s a pretty big scratch on his relatively nice looking rims. (My car paint was still on it and my car is red I looked at mine and indeed it scratched my paint off) anyway, he told me the damages are worth $300 assessed by a mechanic friend. He gave me the option of either giving him the $300 or we can make a claim. I have a $200 deductible. What would you guys do? The deductible is $100 less but won’t my insurance go up? Is it easier to pay the guy and not have my insurance go up or is there anything else I’m not looking at properly? Any advice would be awesome! I never been through this before and I don’t want to pay more insurance when I pay really cheap right now. Thanks in advance!
Update; Thank you to everyone for the advice. I’ll go ahead and wait for them to make a claim and go from there.
