Wow — Super impressed with WiiM Ultra
Received it yesterday, packaging was really nice and it just works. I didn’t have high expectations that it would work perfectly for my situation but it does and it’s super easy, which was fhe ultimate goal. I wanted a system that was super easy to change between TV and music with a push of a button in living room. My setup is Samsung Frame —> ARC input on WiiM Ultra —> Coax in on Onkyo. I have a 4.1 setup (wife doesn’t want a center speaker visible so Onkyo does a virtual center). The ultra passes the 5.1 surround from the HDMI to the digital coax and gives great home theater sound. As a bonus I wasn’t expecting to be able to do this, but I was able to put the Ultra in an Alexa Group and control the music playback on the ultra from Alexa (without Alexa playing the music on the dot)… This is a dream for my wife because she just wants to tell Alexa to play music. I also have full audio volume control whether watching TV or music through the TV remote which was pretty awesome. My wife also doesn’t want to think about which remote to use. She just wants it to work, which is what WiiM provides. I now plan to purchase 4-5 more WiiM minis and/or WiiM amps for the other zones (front porch, back porch, basement, pool) and a WiiM speaker for bedroom. I was looking at spending thousands with Sonos and will be able to do with a quarter of the cost and greater ease with WiiM!! One easy app to control all of this complexity is awesome.
Side note, is there a way to control an Alexa Echo speaker from the WiiM app? I have one existing Alexa echo speaker and wouldn’t mind integrating it the whole home.
