What are your experiences with crossplay off?

Our quad group tried turning crossplay off, we waited over 20 minutes and never found a lobby. The only time we did, it didn't feel any easier. I thought maybe it would fix the "hacker" problem everyone talks about. I dunno, I just want to be able to get dubs again like in the good old verdansk days...
