"Lost" Fed job. next options

This is still fresh but trying to regroup and figure out what to do next. Got an email around 5pm this evening telling me my EOD of January 26th is cancelled at USCIS. Applied for dozens of positions these past 6 months with only 1 interview. Been unemployed for the past 7 years being a stay at home dad and need/want to get a job for a number of reasons. Have an MPA, vet preference (whatever that means anymore). Since this job fell through just today and with no other prospects I'm going to VRE counselor on Monday. They seem to have some networking abilities available to them. Any other recommendations for career searches? I've got 2 months of g.i. bill left for what it's worth. I appreciate any insights.
