Seeking quality contributions about the alleged "egg-shaped" UAP recovery video and Jake Barber's involvement (2025) [in-depth]
Let's isolate the signal from the noise—elevate the quality of the discussion.
🔸 The idea behind this thread
While you're sifting through coverage on this topic on Reddit and other places, trying to find the needle in the haystack and filter the signal from the noise, you're going to find some hidden gems or other things worth considering–things that give context or explain things, or things that seem interesting and worth scrutinizing.
Or you may already know some relevant things related to this topic worth sharing that people may not know about.
To save everyone from having to fossick through a torrent of nonsense, please share any hidden gems you find in this thread so we can all easily look at them in one place.
Similar to the multi-subreddit AMA of January 2025, the goal is for this to be a multi-subreddit collaboration.
I'm posting this here because r/UFO has the most subscribers, the ability to add the "in-depth" tag, and a larger moderation team to help keep this thread on track. Please follow the rules and take this seriously.
I will cross-post it elsewhere soon.
🔸 Posting format
I'm going to make a an index of the comments in this thread, categorised by topic.
To help with that and make it easy to search and scan through the comments, when you add a top-level comment reply to this thread, please use the following format:
What is a "top-level comment"? It's a comment reply made directly to this thread. It is not a reply made to a comment somebody made already within the thread.
- Add a title to your comment briefly summarising what it's about by putting a # before the first line (see below for an example)
- Choose one of the below categories and place it in brackets [Like this] to the left of (before) your title
- Please post one topic per comment. If you want to share something about another topic, please do it in a separate top-level comment (i.e. a reply to the thread). E.g. If you want to feature two historic UAP cases that included an egg-shaped craft, you'd put them each in a separate top-level comment.
🔹Example
[Military] Was the US military still using green night vision at the time the egg-shaped UAP recovery was recorded?
An account from GilAbides:
As someone who actually ran the NVG shop for Army Aviation in Kandahar I can absolutely speak with authority that the military does in fact still use green phosphorus NV Systems. The An/AVS-6 Night vision system costs about $18,000 each. A full units worth of new NVGs would cost an easy million dollars. And when a unit is budgeting, they’re focused on Helicopter parts for maintenance.
If you're using the reddit "Markdown editor," the markdown code for the above comment would look like this:
```
Guidelines
- Keep things factual, objective, and substantive.
- Please link to or cite your sources.
- One claim or topic per comment so a any replies will be specifically about that one thing instead of multiple things.
- It's ok to link to a relevant thread on reddit, or a resource (video; article; news story) outside of reddit, so long as you give that a heading and explain why it's relevant, or quote the relevant part.
- You don't have to be able to verify what you are sharing is accurate. E.g. Maybe you saw a comment in a thread from a former military member who made a claim that seems relevant or gives important context, and wanted to share that. It's fine to post that and present it as someone else's claim, and other people can make a reply either supporting, refuting, or adding context to that claim.
- Comments added can be critical or supportive of the video or claims about or made by Jake Barber, but please make sure they are substantive and constructive. I.e. Meaningful analysis or commentary.
- Opinion is suitable if it's an informed opinion. E.g. Adding a quote from someone who is a video analyst, who thinks the video if fake and provides reasons to back up their claim.
- Opinion is not suitable if you're using this thread like a blog or your personal social media feed. E.g. "Lol this video is totally fake" or "I've been in the military for 20 years, and it's obvious to me Barber is lying" can go on your Bluesky or RedNote social media feed, not here. Claims must be specific and substantive and supported by explanation, reasoning, evidence, sources, or justification of lived-experience or qualifications.
- I may reply to a top-level comment you add, asking you to explain why it's relevant to this thread. Please don't take offence to that, it's me seeking to understand.
- I may pester you to follow the posting format if you have not. If you get stuck or need help, make a reply to this comment.
🔸 Accuracy and truth
Not everything in this thread is necessarily going to be accurate or true.
That's fine–we can hash out and debate the accuracy in the comment replies.
If there is a consensus about whether a comment is accurate or not, or it's something that's independently verifiable, I'll categorise it as such in the comment index using these symbols:
❓= Unverified 🔴 = Inaccurate 🟡 = Under debate 🟢 = True/Verified
🔸 What does "in-depth" mean?
This post is tagged as "[in-depth]"? It's a feature this subreddit offers to improve the quality of contributions and discussions with a thread. I.e. you'll see a comment pinned to this post that says:
The submitter has indicated that they would like an in-depth discussion.
All top-level comments in this post must be greater than 150 characters. Additionally, they must contribute positively to the discussion. Jokes, memes, puns, etc. will be removed along with anything which is too off-topic.
🔹 Comments must be at least 150 characters long
Top-level comments (i.e. comment replies to this thread) must be greater than 150 characters. I.e.
This paragraph contains exactly 150 characters, carefully crafted to demonstrate its length. It's concise and meets the stated character limit.
By adding a heading to your comment, including a link to a source, and quoting any relevant parts and describing why it's relevant or significant, you'll easily meet the character requirement.
If you're asking a question, explaining what you're asking and why should easily meet the character requirement.
